Did You Know?
The first black-owned oil refinery in Nigeria was built in 1968 not by a multinational, but by an Igbo man, Gordian Ezekwe, during the Biafran War.

Prof. Gordian Obumneme Ezekwe was born on May 10, 1929, in Abagana, Anambra State, into a family of traders who valued education. From his early days at St. Mark’s School, Abagana, through higher studies in Swansea and London, he sharpened his engineering mind.

When the Biafran War erupted in 1967, he returned home not to flee, but to use his knowledge. Under his supervision, the Research & Production Directorate built mobile refineries and made fuel, inventing under fire so that his people would not need to rely on outside help.

How many other heroes like Ezekwe have we forgotten?
