• ANIOMA IGBO'S CONTRIBUTION TO BIAFRA,..

"If you talk of Biafra, give it to Ndigbo of Delta State. The youngest GOC was Col. Azum Asoya from Okpanam, the land of Chukwuma Nzeogwu. Other notable GOCs were Brig. Conrad Nwawo, Sylvanus Nwajei and Joe Achuzia.

The Head of the Biafran Navy, Capt. Wilfred Anuku and Army Adjutant General, Brig. Nduka Okwechime, Head of Military Intelligence, Bernard Odogwu and Ben. Ochei, a Brigade commander all hailed from Delta.
In the Biafran Air Force, Alex Agbafuna gave his life. Larry Obiechi, Chris Lanky Ogbolu and Gab Ebube showed class in the sky. Even after the w@r, some Igbouzo [Ibusa] boys refused to surrender. They remained in the bush fighting. That is the hometown of Capt. Onwuenweoyi Uwaechue and Lt. Anikam Okolichi.
I do not think there is a better Igbo than Prof. Nolue Emenanjo in terms of contribution to the development of the language. Igbouzo migrated from Isu, Imo State as warriors. That is the place of Admiral Dele Ezeoba, a former Chief Of Naval Staff as well Emmanuel Olisadebe, the footballer who made the Polish president bend rules on the way to the 2002 World Cup."

  • Identity Crisis
The truth remains that the kingdom called Benin had igbo inhabitants originally. In those days no settlement had a homogeneous population as it still today. Igbos who claim to migrate from Benin kingdom are still igbos inhabitants there. That’s why there language remained thesame unchanged. This also explained why all those who claimed to migrate from Benin moved and settled eastwards from Benin (now anioma) where their kit and kin are dominant, some crossing over the Niger River (onitcha). This eastward trajectory happened at the time of cr!sis in Benin.Non of these Igbo speakers migrating from Benin moved towards Yoruba areas or up North

  • We Were Not Benin, We Are Igbos, And There’s Nothing Benin About Us.”- Senator Ned Nwoko
    reveals:
Senator Ned Nwoko has directly challenged historical narratives regarding the ethnic identity of the Anyoma people, insisting that they are culturally and historically Igbo, not an offshoot of the Benin Kingdom. The Delta North Senator made this forceful declaration during his argument for the creation of Anyoma State, asserting that confusion over their origin was a consequence of historical circumstances and survival tactics. Nwoko’s statement underscores the cultural affinity underpinning his legislative push to formally place the proposed state in the Southeast geopolitical zone.

According to a video posted on the Official YouTube channel of Channels Television, while explaining why some Anyoma people had previously distanced themselves from the Igbo identity, Senator Nwoko rejected external historical influence. He declared, “We were not Benin, We are Igbos, and there’s nothing Benin about us.” He traced this identity distortion to the historical expansion of the Benin Empire and later, to survival tactics during the Nigerian Civil War, where people were compelled to deny their Igbo heritage to escape alleged ethnic cleansing and violence
